Antibiotic Smile by Jethro and Joses Olba (Odin and Grotesk)

While there are already many art and lifestyle brands, none of them bring art as both contagion and cure quite like Antibiotic Smile.

The visionary Olba brothers, Jethro and Joses, initiated this lifestyle brand project at the start of the pandemic to express their love for the 80s to early 00s design pop culture vibe. The brand draws heavy inspiration from the captivating world of cartoons, vintage graphic tees, comic books, and iconic television shows. According to the brothers, the visual identity aims to transport viewers back to their joyous memories and infuse new flavors into a nostalgia-driven market.

Another significant visual aspect in their design system is their illustration style. Here’s an excerpt explaining their process:

“We always begin our creative process by invoking cherished memories from our childhood. We achieve this by immersing ourselves in old cartoons, indulging in the packaging of the food we enjoyed, and even wearing graphic t-shirts reminiscent of that period. We allow ourselves to be fully immersed in the nostalgia of those moments.

Next, we analyze the creative aspects of those memories — the imperfect yet charming character designs, the vibrant colors that brought them to life, and, most importantly, the attitude conveyed through the art. This step is crucial in our creative research and mood-boarding process, as it helps us solidify the concept behind each unique piece or collection we create.

Once we’ve completed the discovery phase, it’s time for the enjoyable part: bringing our ideas to life. We translate our concepts into a series of flash sheets and characters, which we then incorporate into various touchpoints such as t-shirts, hats, and more. Though it may seem like a straightforward process, it holds immense personal significance to us, making it all the more precious and fun.”

With three years under our belt as of writing, AS already boasts a wide range of capsule collections and collaborations and looks forward to bringing visuals that are delightfully bizarre.
