National Book Development Board Philippines by Team Manila Graphic Design Studio

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) has been with since 1995 and has been the main governing body that ensures the Philippines has a steady strem of high-quality books both here and abroad. Along with this task is to create and implement a National Book Policy which is also to forward the book industry. With these heavy tasks of building a culture of reading and authorship and a wide range of audience to cater to, they hired one of the pioneers of graphic design in the modern times, Team Manila Graphic Design Studio.

The refreshed logo starts with three books that are dynamically-stacked, evoking edges of a book. From the designers, these three books represent three entitties vital in bringing books to life: the publishers, creatives, and readers.

Of course, the brand color is directly inspired by the the Philippine flag to align itself in connection to the Philippine government. Last item to notice is the “N” of NBDB and a book forming an arrow, a symbolism of the agency’s drive the growth of the local publishing industry.

Shared here are some of the brand’s materials like touchpoints like IDs, letterheads, and business cards.

Another strength of the design are the multiple play on the patterns, which was also used in the prints and social media art cards.

Not only did Team Manila created the brand, but also some of the agency’s booth designs for international events and road shows.
